Granite (French: granite) is a type of acidic internal igneous rock. For this reason, its texture has medium to large grains and contains quartz (mica), mica, feldspar, and parts of other minerals. Depending on the minerals in the thorn stone and its chemistry, it can be found in a variety of colors, from pink to white and gray. This stone is one of the heaviest stones with a density of 2.75 grams per cubic centimeter.

Thorn stone is one of the strongest and hardest stones. Therefore, it is widely used as a building material. The wear resistance of this stone has led to its widespread use in laboratories. The high strength and hardness of this stone makes it possible to make sheets only a few millimeters thick from this stone.

It should be noted that the word granite has Latin roots.

Khara rock is a rock formed by the cooling of acidic molten masses. Granite is a symbol of hardness, strength and durability. Thorns can be seen in white, gray, Portuguese, green, black, red, etc. Granites are harder but more uniform than limestone. Thorn stones do not scratch easily and their resistance to heat is high. Granite is best used in exterior paving and in places that are exposed to a lot of traffic, and it can also be used in exterior and interior paving of buildings and stairs. Mines of these rocks are found in Central Asian countries such as India, China, Taiwan, Vietnam and Iran, which have different properties depending on the constituent elements and physical properties. These properties have a direct impact on the final quality of the stone, including water absorption, flexural and abrasion resistance, and the amount of iron in it. This type of stone includes 2 types of natural and colored, which can be divided into stones called peach, pea and red, Black Galaxy, Chance Black, Carmen Red, Baltic Brown, Maple Red, Joparna, Multicolor Volgablo, Bidasar Brown , Bidaser Sabz, Bash Paradiso, Tan Brown, Silver Pearl… pointed out. Due to its high hardness, the cost of cutting and processing it is higher than limestone and also has a much longer lifespan and durability than limestone.

Granite and its types

In general, granite is observed and classified into three categories. Granite rocks that were formed about two million years ago, which was called the pre-geological period, were formed. These stones can not be used as decorative stones because they were formed during the Earth's orogeny. In the following list of types of building granite stones, we see together. What are the elements of granite?

The chemical composition of granites consists mostly of silicon and aluminum, which make up about 85% of the composition of granites, and the remaining 15% are elements such as: titanium, iron, calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium.

Application of granite

Granites are more resistant to limestone and have higher strength; For this reason, it is mostly used in busy places such as paving streets and office and commercial buildings and subway stations, and we should know that the use of granite for indoor spaces such as kitchen counters, building stairs and even single paving Are also unobstructed. Granite can also be a good choice for the facade of buildings, but it should be borne in mind that scoping the stone was not neglected.

Granite stones are used for building facades, paving, on cabinets, stairs and.. Granite is the best option for building stairs. Building stairs are worn and polluted due to heavy traffic, so you should use a stone like granite for them that has high strength and durability. The best places to use granite are parking spaces, courtyard floors, open kitchens and stairwells, and generally busy floors.

Advantages and disadvantages of granite

One of the advantages of granite is its durability and resistance to atmospheric factors as well as corrosive and acidic materials. Disadvantages of granite stone can be pointed out to the high cost of processing it due to the composition of cut quartz and its sub, it is necessary to spend a higher cost than other stones. Therefore, the processing of these stones in stone cutting is limited. On the other hand, the use of granite in stone facade due to the high specific gravity has increased the weight of the building and due to the lack of cementation of granite stone with mortar, its installation requires high skill.

According to new articles on the composition of granite stones, the presence of metal minerals and amounts of radon gas, their use in the interior of the building, especially the kitchen counter is limited. In some rock varieties, due to the presence of iron oxide streaks, there is a possibility of rust and rot over time.

Features of granite

 High specific gravity
high resistance
Can be used in busy places
 High strength and durability

Disadvantages of granite

Low color variation Poor subs High processing cost

Granite price

Due to the high cost of extraction and processing of granite stones, the price of granite stones is higher than different types of marble and travertine. Granite stones that have a higher sub quality and are in higher grades in terms of grading are also more expensive. White granite stones are more expensive than dark granites

Dimensions of granite

Granites are extracted in blocks from the mine and transferred to quarries for processing. And in the dimensions of granite slabs, all types of tiles are processed 80 * 80, 60 * 60, 50 * 50, 40 * 40. The best tile thickness is 2 cm and it is more suitable for kitchen counter 3 cm.
